The Move and New Starts

Every muscle of my body aches. Moving is for the young, and each day I realize a little more how much age changes a person. It doesn't help to have an extra 30 pounds to lug around and my feet have reminded me regularly that it's time to make a change.

When it comes to losing weight, it's so easy to put it off until tomorrow or better yet next Monday. As long as we were moving, I decided to put it off until after the move because let's face it--moving is stressful and you end up eating out more as the kitchen gets packed away. Don't those excuses sound good? They worked for me. But, that's just it. They are excuses, and in reality are poor reasons for why I'm at the top weight of my life.

If I stopped and listed my excuses next to the health risks I choose to increase by my poor behavior, or maybe allowed my picture to be taken without trying to hide behind another person, I'd see the reality. Each day that slips by without changing my eating or being accountable for what passes these lips and adheres to my hips is really another day of living in rebellion.

Another First

Well, I did it. That exercise DVD I bought--I actually used it today. I've head about Pilates for a few years now, but today I actually did it. It's a challenge, but will do what I need to do. Help burn fat, strengthen and increase flexibility. One thing the instructor said sticks with me. She says if I'm consistent...consistent. The very word is the key to better health. Whether eating right, exercising or getting proper rest, consistency is the factor that makes a difference.

The Little Things

Little things can set me off on a path of self-pity, soothe me to believe I deserve it now, and other such nonsense thinking. This week I sold two articles to a market new to me. My feeling soared and by the time I signed the contract and sent it in, doubt and fear wormed into my thinking that they might change their mind. I know God has gifted me to write and expects me to use my talent. The outcome is up to Him and I shouldn't worry about it. I am responsible to do my part.

Now, think about eating. God has blessed us with abudance. I know God desires me to eat healthy. He expects me to use the knowledge he's blessed me with. It so easy to wallow with others overweight and talk about how we need to do something about it, but never with a real commitment.

Last night my husband and I sat around the table with friends and the subject of weight came up. One husband and wife became a little touchy about the subject and he said that no one around the table (with the exception of my husband) had any room to talk. This hit me. It's a first in my life. I realized not only I know I'm overweight, but that it's obvious to those around me.

Usually people say things like, "You don't look like you need lose weight." I hold onto that kind of thing with false comfort, but the mirror tells me differently. It so happens that yesterday afternoon I bought an exercise DVD. Last night's conversation has given me the nudge I need to get on track. I'll have to let you know how the exercise goes. God expects me to use the healthy eating information he's brought across my path. The outcome is up to Him and I shouldn't worry about it. I am responsible to do my part.

Eating Out

Winding up the last of my day job and our saying goodbye to our friends here in Florida has put me in the middle of an eating marathon. Lunch out is a daily thing as various people want to treat me to lunch before I'm gone, and my husband and I are enjoying the same for our dinner schedule.

Enjoying is the word here, but in the back of my mind I'm ready to stop all this eating. My posts here will be a bit sporadic as I juggle my writing obligations with packing and emotional farewells.

How is everyone out there doing? Let me know if you're reading and if your ready to consider seriously starting to move toward better health and eating nutritionally.
