Flexible Exercise Goals - Do What Works

I changed things around yesterday. The weatherman said it would reach 98, and I knew I didn't want to make an appointment to exercise during the heat of the day. My conflict is that I'm a morning person. It's the best time for me to write--my most creative. Now, it is also the best time to exercise, too. I decided to set my appointment for 10:00. That way I could get some writing done before I went out. It worked. 10:00 was much more pleasant...still hot, but a breeze that made it doable. I ran/walked intervals for two miles in 27:32 so I reached my goal to keep it below 15 minutes a mile. Stay flexible with your exercise goals so they can work for you and not against you.

Yesterday afternoon I had the grandkids, worked in the garden for about an hour-and-a-half, and have loads of tomatoes to deal with. The grandkids snacked on the okra so I don't have to do anything with that. After that we sat on the front porch and watched the hummingbirds feed at the feeder. I saw my first female...and she came back often. I'm hoping to get a photo to share with you all. I could sit there for hours...well, I've started making that part of my workday. I sit on the porch with my laptop and when I hear the hum of their wings I'm right there to see them. Very cool!

Hi Joni,

It is soooo a gift from God. The fact that I'm not at a 9 to 5 anymore is another gift...otherwise I'd miss the opportunity. How great is that to take my work out on the porch with me? In fact, it's almost time.

Donna,

It's wonderful that you can work at home. Many people claim they'd go nuts doing that. I happen to think that's the best thing life can offer a writer.
Everything you love is close. Everything that speaks to who you are and where you've been surrounds you.

I think it's important to identify the things that inspire you and to view them each day.
One of my favorite things is a life-size sculpture of a raven that hangs to the right of my writing desk. It's so cool. I think of E.A Poe everytime I look at it.
I am content that my silent friend perches above the door and does not dampen the atmosphere with his chant, "nevermore."

Write on,

Raven

It's funny that you say that. As I read your post I'm sitting on the front porch watching the humming birds come to the feeder. A heron just flew over...I do love the flexibility to work at home. It's not all fun, but it's a lot better than going to a 9 to 5 and THEN fitting in my writing.
