One Day at a Time

What a week! End of the month crunch, beginning of the month planning. a garden overflowing with produce and...
Yes, I still fit in exercise.
I've continued to do intervals and I've also added strength training two days. My biggest victory was running up the big hill at the end of the street. Can you see me doing the Rocky victory pose? What a rush.
Also dealt with another 7 dozen tomatoes. This time, my daughter, grandkids and I made salsa and did our first canning of the year since our freezers are full.
And on the writing front, I received an email from the Cup of Comfort folks on a story I submitted for their God's Promises series. They really liked it, and it has a good chance of making it into the book. Final decisions will be made in December or so.
With this quick rundown of my week, let me say that I experienced a lack of motivation in the middle of the week. Too many things to do can overwhelm. I keep a list though, and tick things off one at a time to keep me going. On this end of it, I have to say I'm sooo happy that I didn't let busyness crowd out my plans to exercise. It's so easy to do that, and yet so unhealthy. Keep putting one foot in front of the other, it pays off.
Now, I have to say to you all that I plan to eat better this week. Okay, I know I've said it before, but now that I have exercised for a month (regularly) it's time to stop sabotaging myself. And notice I said, this week. I'm going to take baby steps. One day at a time, I'll plan to make healthier choices.

Hi donna,
I'm still peeking in on you and making sure you're working the program!
And you ARE! With determination and persistence!
You go Rocky! lol
The summer is the best time to watch the calories, because who feels like cooking over a HOT stove? NOT ME! Salads, of every kind during the summer.
You keep up the good work.
Joni
Hi Donna
I'm back from my vacation on the coast and have been catching up on how your exercise routine is going. You are doing an excellent job not letting the detours take you down. You get right back up and start again. Good for you!I'm sure you will apply the same determination to making healthy eating choices.
While on vacation, I managed to do a lot of hiking and at times, cliff climbing to get down and back up from beaches. Every once in a while one of us would say, "let's take a walk around the camp." We all kept our blood moving and muscles stoked that way. I managed to eat right for most of the trip, but did splurge on some seafood.
Paying attention to portions is paying off. I've learned to eat slowly and savor my food then stop eating the moment my stomach feels full. I'm eating about half of what I used to eat. The IBS recipes are simple, but taste like gourmet food. My husband says it's the best "diet" food he's ever tasted!
I expected to get on the scale when I returned home and see that I'd gained weight from my splurges, but I'd lost a few ounces. Weight loss is slow, but that's okay, because I'm working on lifetime habits not quick fixes.
Congrats on the Cup of Comfort story! Let us know if it's accepted. Keep up the great job!
Roberta
I love canning. When I was little, I looked forward to canning time all year round because it meant I got to drink all the fresh tomato juice I could swallow. It's a wonderful thing. :P
By the way, I found your blog on blogcatalog.com and since I see you're into writing, I wanted to let you know about a new e-zine that me and a few writer friends are putting together.
It's called The Oddville Press.
You should check us out if you're interested--it's free to subscribe, hey! Or better yet, submit something!
Thanks a bunch and good luck with losing weight and keeping healthy! :)
Hi Joni,
Well tonight we have salad and fajitas on the menu!
Thanks for all your encouragement, it helps.

Hi Roberta,
You are so right about slow weight loss and life time changes. Of course, I always want quick fixes to my long-term over eating and lack of exercise. Once I get my mind right, I realize it is a lifetime gig and just take it one day at a time. Seeing the pounds come off slowly but surely is rewarding as long as you aren't impatient. For me weight loss is part of it, but my overall future health is a big consideration too.
Congratulations of staying active on your trip! And it sounds like you practiced moderation in your eating--the scale tells me so.
Good job!
Donna
Hi Steph,
Thanks for the heads up on the new ezine. I will for sure check it out and pass the information on to my fellow writers.
Drinking that tomato juice...hmmmm. I never did that. I just put it right into the jars with the tomatoes.
